My Latest Update
I know that it has been a really long time since I have update. I guess I didn’t really feel a desire to do it. Nothing was working. No matter how hard or how little I tried, my weight just wanted to be stubborn. I could starve myself for a week, and gain weight, or I could just eat regularly and gain the same weight. So I stopped trying altogether, and thus had no desire to write about it until now.

For a while now I have suspected issues with my body, and thyroid dysfunction kept running through my head. My sister and my mother (who are both overweight) have recently been to a Naturopath and were both diagnosed with Thyroid issues. They started taking supplements and whatever else the doctor prescribed and started losing weight without even trying. Up to date, my sister has lost at least 50 pounds if not more (she doesn’t keep track and doesn’t weight herself regularly). My mother has lost 17 without trying one bit.

I decided that rather than starting another diet and putting more money into the dieting world, I would rather spend the money on going to the same Naturopath and actually getting checked out. Let me tell you, it was money very well spent!!

I had my 1st appt with the Naturopath on March 15th. We talked for a little, I gave him my background, explained to him the issues I was having and told him that I thought I had Thyroid issues and why and that maybe something else was wrong with me... but that was for him to figure out.

He ran several tests on me, including a blood test, a toxicity test, and a thyroid reflex test. The reflex test told him right then and there that I had a low functioning thyroid. But I had to wait 3 weeks to get all the other results back. That was not fun. Anyone who knows me well knows that patience is not a huge trait of mine...

During all this time, my weight crept up. The highest I’ve gotten so far this year is 194.6 and that was on April 6th.... my lowest weight this year was on February 17, and that was 188.4... So only about a 6 pound difference... Actually writing these numbers on here for everyone to read is really embarrassing.

On April 5th I had my 2nd Naturopath appt. This time he went over my test results and told me what I need to be doing. He set my test results on the desk, looked at me and said “You’re messed up.” lol... I just started laughing. Glad it wasn’t just all in my head. It was a relief to know that he found what was wrong with me and was actually able to fix my issues. I was and still am very excited! He explained what was wrong with my gut and why my body was not assimilating any vitamins or minerals. That has a lot to do with my not being able to lose weigh along with my Thyroid issues.

So far I have paid the Naturopath around $500 and my supplements have cost me around $175. It’s quite a lot of money, but I don’t regret it one bit. I have already seen quite a difference in my body within just a few days of taking the supplements he prescribed to me. I have noticed that I am LOT hungrier... which at first freaked me out... but I weighed myself and was very happy to see that within 2 days of starting the supplements, I lost 2 pounds without changing ANYTHING....

That is my update for now. I am going to give my body a few days (maybe a few weeks) to adjust to all this new stuff entering my body and after that I plan to REALLY start trying to lose weight. I am very optimistic at this point... I’ll keep you updated!
Weigh In Yet Again
This morning I felt skinny (I don’t get it often, but I LOVE that feeling!!). I think  its cause yesterday I tried REALLY hard to eat VERY little. Up until yesterday my eating has been horrible, but yesterday I portioned my food very carefully and ate only what I portioned out. Don’t get me wrong, I would have LOVED to eat more… but I just didn’t let myself. And even though right after I finished my portion I still felt hungry, I told myself that if I am still truly hungry in 20-30 minutes, I could eat more. But after some time went by, I was no longer hungry at all.

That to me was a revelation. I realized that I CAN survive with little amounts of food. I’m always afraid that if I don’t stuff myself uncomfortably full that I will be hungry in just a little bit. But I now know that I can eat little meals, drink lots of fluids, and I will survive!!

So even though I felt thinner this morning than I have in a long time, the scale didn’t agree with me. I weighed in at 190.2. I was disappointed, but I didn’t hate myself. I didn’t get depressed. I just told myself that its probably fluff/water weight from all the crappy, salty food I’ve been eating the last week or so. I know that if I continue to eat the way I did yesterday, I will start dropping pounds. I just got to stick to it!

So my current goal is still to get to 187.8. I just have not been able to get there. Maybe by next Thursday I will lose 2.4 and finally reach my goal… but who knows. My sisters birthday is this weekend… it’ll be a huge celebration. I just hope I am able to stop myself from gorging everything sight.
Latest Weigh In
I am SO thrilled!! I have been having a hard time getting my scale to go down… but it finally did!! My most recent goal was to lose 1 pound. I wanted to go from 190.2 to 189.2. Last Thursday, February 3rd, I weighed in at 188.8. I know it’s still a huge number, but its less than I was hoping for!! I am really pleased! Not only did I reach my goal of losing 1 pound, but I surpassed it by a whole 4 ounces!! I lost 1.4 pounds for last week!! Yeah!!

My next goal is to lose another pound. I want to weigh in tomorrow morning at 187.8 or LESS!! I am really hopeful … but I think I’m having some doubts. I snuck in a “weigh in” here & there throughout the week, and have been disappointed with what I was seeing on the scale. I’m not holding my breath, but am really eager for the scale to move in the downward direction again.

I do have to admit that this week has not been one of my best dieting weeks. We have been going out quite a lot, and I really have not been listening to my body. This is unpleasant to admit, but I’ve been eating when I am absolutely NOT hungry. The foods there, the company is there, why not? I don’t even enjoy the food, but just cause its there, I’ve been eating it. Eeww. I know. I really need to work on that. If only I would listen to my body, trust it, and only feed it when it really needed it, I could be super skinny.

Oh well. I’m not letting myself get too disappointed. I know I messed up; no point in focusing on it too much. Time to learn from my mistake & move on.

Tomorrow is my next weigh in. Hopefully I’ll reach my goal and I won’t put off posting about it. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Starting to feel hopeful...
I feel really good this morning. Proud. Hopeful. A little thinner.

Yesterday was the 1st day of February, and I must say, I did REALLY well diet wise. Not necessarily because I tried, but pretty much because I had no option. Lunch & dinner I ate what I brought with me, nothing more. So portion control was great. After dinner we went to babysit my nieces, and my sweet tooth REALLY started acting up!! I wanted sugar unbearably!!! BUT, there was none around, so I couldn’t have any. It made me a little irritated, and I thought “as soon as we get home, I’ll have some sugar.” But by the time we packed up to leave and were driving, I was SO happy that I hadn’t had sugar!

It was really nice to be able to stick to the plan, even though I was really fighting it. It worked out great (it's cool to look back & see how God worked it out) I’m really hoping that since yesterday was so good that it’ll help me to realize (and accept) that I CAN survive with limited portions and little to NO sugar… that would be awesome!

On this Naturally Slim plan that I am supposed to be following… I am not supposed to have any obvious sugar for 3 weeks. I’m going to call yesterday day 1 of the 21 days I need to be sugar free to break my addiction … I hope I can last the next 20 days. They say that after day 4, it becomes really easy. It’s the 1st few days that are awful… I’ll let you know how it goes.

Tomorrow is my official weigh in of the week. I must say, I feel a bit thinner. My pants are fitting a bit less snug. I ended January weighing 190.2 my goal for tomorrow is to weigh in at 189.0 or less… I’m really hoping for less, but I’ll be satisfied if I at least lose this 1.2 lbs. I decided to be a bit more realistic. Instead of hoping to lose all 50 pounds at one time, I’m setting smaller goals of 1 pound per week. If I can at least do that, then by the time the next New Year’s party rolls around, I should be about 50 pounds thinner! Then I can REALLY enjoy our hotel/pool party! Really looking forward to it.

I’ll let you know what I weigh in at tomorrow…
January Update
You can do all the planning you want,

But if you don’t take action, all your

Planning will be in vain and nothing

You do will flourish.

This hit the spot this morning as I was reading my calendar. January has gone, and I achieved no success with my dieting at all. I had all these plans, all these dreams, and I did absolutely nothing to achieve them. I kept thinking about doing something, but I didn’t give it any effort. I thought I would just lose weight without actually trying. Yeah. That didn’t happen.

Not only did I not do anything to help myself lose weight, but I also kept putting off blogging about it because I felt like such a loser.

Well, time to fess up. I am a loser. (Wish I was a weight loser, but I’m not). I was lazy & not motivated most of January. There were a few days where I “attempted” to diet... but that only lasted... well... a few days.

I started January weighing 188.60…  then during the actual month I ended up gaining around 3 pounds which put me at 191.4. For someone trying to LOSE weight, I sure wasn’t doing a good job of it. I ended the month weighting 190.2. Not a good month at all (but only weight wise), other than that it was an AMAZING month!

I definitely planned… planned to be strict with myself and to follow a good diet faithfully. Planned to lose at least 8 pounds for the month of January. But did I take any action? Nope. Not at all. Did I flourish? Sure, but not the way I had hoped. My body flourished & got even bigger.

I have this weight tracker app on my IPhone. So one day, I was looking at my “stats” and I burst out laughing. It listed my statistics such as my maximum weight, minimum weight, and my average gain/loss (which, by the way, said that I have been gaining an average of ½ pound per week)  since I’ve been using the app. Then at the very bottom it said: “At this rate, you will NEVER reach your target weight.” Really? Seriously? That is SO un-motivational! I know it’s true based on my stats, but still, to actually read it seemed a little harsh (but eye opening).

I sure hope I can do much better in the month of February…
Last Update - Summary for 2010
I know I haven’t updated in a while. Been meaning to, but it’s been just such a busy, fun month that I just put it off… until now.

So my goal for December was to lose 7 pounds by New Years so I could be “ok” with wearing a bathing suit at our hotel pool. Yeah. That did NOT happen. Not only did I not lose the 7 pounds, but I gained 1 on top of that!! At least it’s just 1 and not more. But still, it sucks.

I started the year at my highest (non-pregnancy) weight ever. In January I weighed in at 194.0. Crazy!! I gave birth to my 3rd child at 193 2 years prior to this… so to not be pregnant and to weight that much… not cool at all!!

In January 2010 I started a work provided program called Naturally Slim. Within 10 weeks, I lost 10 pounds. After that I tried several other diets such as the South Beach Diet & also Weight Watchers amongst a few others. The lowest that I got down to for the whole year was 178.1. I was on a roll and very excited. But that’s as far as I got. Little by little, instead of going down, my weight started creeping back up…

Now it’s December 2010, and I weighed in at 188.0 this morning. So that’s a total of 6 pounds lost in 1 whole year. Kind of seems horrible. But if I look on the bright side, it is 6 pounds down instead of up for the year.

I have big plans and hopes for my weight in 2011. I plan to jump right in come January and really stay focused and stick to ONE diet for the whole year, instead of trying a new one every few weeks and not really giving it time to work the way it’s supposed to.

My diet choice for 2011 is Naturally Slim. Why? Because it’s the easiest, the cheapest, and it’s the one I lost the most weight on in 2010. I only gave it 10 weeks in 2010 and I lost 10. So, if I give it the full 52 weeks in 2011, I could be 52 pounds lighter by 2012…. Actually, I would like to be 50 pounds lighter by May of 2011… but we’ll see how that goes.

Hope you have a wonder New Year’s celebration!! Spend plenty quality time with your loved ones, enjoy your time, and may you have a blessed 2011!!
My Diet Update
I’ve been meaning to update for quite some time now, but it seems that I can never find the time. Well, right now, I am sitting here at work with NOTHING to do, so I thought “why not now?”

There’s really not much to say. All the weight (7 pounds) that I lost on my starvation journey (The Master Cleanse) I have gained back. I was disappointed, but not surprised.

After I went off of the cleanse, I decided to just relax and take it easy. And slowly, over a couple of weeks, the pounds crept back up. I am REALLY happy that I did not gain more than I had lost.

The holidays have begun, and so has the appearance of delicious food. Each morning I decide that “I will be good today” and the same thing happens: Goodies show up! Obviously I cannot NOT have a few of them….

Yesterday was December 1st. I can’t believe it. The year is almost over. This has probably been the fastest year of my life... either that, or I’m just getting old... lol

Anyway, I decided that I need to lose about 7 pounds by the end of December (my family is getting together in a hotel to celebrate New Years… in the hotel is a 24 hour pool… a pool means wearing a swimsuit… ugh. The dreaded swimsuit.)

Anyway, so I decided to try and lose at least a few pounds by then so that I can enjoy myself a little more. That same day that I vowed to be good, Abby walks into work with a PLATTER of homemade goodies. I just looked at her, and all my “plans” went out the window. She made Fudge Peppermint Brownies. Let me tell you. Those were THE BEST brownies I have EVER had in my life!!!

Now that I look back at the moment, I could have… no SHOULD have... taken ONE brownie and eaten it SUPER slow and actually enjoyed it. But did I do that? No! Sadly, embarrassingly, I swallowed like 4 of them within just a mere few minutes. WHY?? WHY?? WHY?? Do I do that to myself!! It’s like as soon as something seems good, all my “self control” goes out the window until I am done devouring whatever it was that was put in front of me. Then the regret, the sadness all sets in and I think to myself “Next time, I will NOT do that. Next time, I will eat really slow, enjoy my food, and control myself.” But does that happen? Nope. Only in my head does that actually take place.

Anyway, my goal for this month should be an easy one. I want to lose 7 pounds in 30 days. That shouldn’t be TOO impossible, right?
I quit. Yes, again.
I have been dreading writing this post. Why? Well, maybe because I have quit something yet again. It’s getting to be quite embarrassing.

I started the Master Cleanse with the hope of doing it for 40 days. I highly doubted that I could go that long, but I thought I’d give it a try.

99% of my reason for doing this cleanse was for weight loss. The other 1%, I thought, if I cleaned something out, that would just be a bonus.

The 1st few days were going great. I was able to go without eating, not happily, but easily for the most part. I felt great, and I was losing weight.

I think my 4th day into it, I gained a few ounces. I wasn’t too upset, but it did catch my attention. The next day, I gained a FULL pound. I know that sounds ridiculous, but when you are eating absolutely NOTHING and you start to GAIN weight… in my opinion, that’s not normal. As soon as I saw the numbers on the scale, I was done. I was so disappointed. I kept thinking “how can I be gaining, if I’m NOT eating?”  I decided that if I am going to gain weight, I might as well be eating and enjoying it rather than starving and STILL gaining. So that day I decided to start getting off the cleanse. My main purpose of the cleanse was to lose weight, not gain it. I decided there was absolutely no reason to continue torturing myself any longer.

I lasted a full 5 days on the cleanse. Total I lost 7 pounds, and then started gaining it back. It’s been about a week since I got off, and I am too afraid to get on the scale. I think I might have gained all of it back by now. So disappointing.

Overall, I think that if you truly need to cleanse, this is the way to do it. I felt absolutely perfect while doing it. I just don’t think that it’s wise to do this for just weight loss, like I was doing. It’s not worth the torture. I’d rather learn to eat differently and be able to do it the rest of life rather than having to starve.

The drink itself was gross. After having to drink it for so long, it made me want to gag, and thus I ended up drinking less and less of it… and I think that put my body into starvation mode… thus the weight gain.

So yes; I quit again. I feel like a failure, but I won’t let it get me down. I will just keep trying. I never know which diet that I try will finally be “the one”  that will set me free from this fat journey of mine.

Ah. It’s off my mind now. I can relax now and enjoy my life ; )
Another “Discovery”
So I’ve come across another “discovery”. I’ve heard about (and have actually known people who have done) the Master Cleanse. It caught my attention several times, but I have never actually seriously considered doing it.

Well recently, I’ve been having quite a few migraines and some other issues that have required either pharmaceutical drugs or vitamin supplements. So I got to thinking “I wonder how many symptoms will disappear if I do a cleanse??”

My sister was doing some research and summarizing the cleanse for one of our aunts; so at the same time, she emailed a copy to me. I read through it and have been pondering it ever since.

I really want to do it now, but everyone recommends that “you read the book first”… Fine with me. I love reading. So yesterday, my husband ordered me the book “The Master Cleanser” by Stanley Burroughs. I can’t wait to receive it, read it, and start cleansing!

My hope was to start on Nov 1st of this year… but we’ll see how the timing works out.

I’ll be honest. I am really worried about starting this. I am just so afraid that I will not be able to do it. I just like food too much to not eat it for a minimum of 10 days. I really want to try though. I really think that it will clean me out, get rid of all my toxins, make me feel better AND help me to jump start my weight loss. They say you can’t do this with weight loss as your goal… but really? That’s pretty much the MAIN reason I want to do it… I won’t deny it. Being skinny AND not having migraines… now that’s a motivator!!

I’ll let you know what fun stuff I discover as soon as I get my book and start reading it…  Let me know if anyone wants to join me in this endeavor ; )
